Update on the Madison Home and Garden Tour
There are so many interesting things to look for when you plan a visit to Madison’s rain or shine Home and Garden Tour on Sunday, September 10th from 12 – 4 pm! Stops on the tour, a total of nine properties to visit, will present lovely homes of various architectural styles and periods as well as gardens and yards that abound with many beautiful native plantings. Ticket holders will be inspired by the work of many area architects, builders, kitchen designers, landscape artists, and decorators.
On this tour, owners of one home and garden have created a stunning and sustainable home whose living area is set apart by the homeowner’s extensive and interesting artwork. Another home’s architects designed this single-family dwelling to harmonize a charming, existing street view with the owner’s desire for a modern, sustainable aesthetic. Inspired by a long-lost carriage house, owners of yet another tour home used their memories as a template for a contemporary design that features front gables like those of their neighbors’ historic homes. While the home’s white exterior recalls the carriage house of yore, the new construction design provides accessibility for aging in place and energy efficiency. Describing her Parterre garden and rear yard as a ‘private oasis,’ the area surrounds a beautiful, fully renovated shingle-style home to be shared on the tour by another homeowner and expert gardener.
Advanced sale adult tickets for this event are $50 and $55 at the time of the event, which will begin with a check-in at the Madison Community House, 25 Cook Avenue, Madison. On the day of the tour ticket holders register there to receive a brochure with addresses and more details for each property. Please visit www.friendsmadisonnjlibrary.org for information and to purchase tickets. All proceeds from the tour go directly toward the Madison Public Library to fund their many offerings including the extremely popular Summer Reading Program, craft kits, lectures, and passes to 14 New York-New Jersey area museums - all available to Madison residents.
This tour is truly a community event highlighting Madison, which has recently been described in the media as one of the state’s ‘most charming small towns,’ and inviting friends and neighbors, guests and volunteers alike to come together, to enjoy the diverse beauty of Madison and support the Madison Library! The tour is a partnership between the Friends of the Madison Public Library, a 501 (c)(3) organization of volunteers, and the Madison Environmental Commission, a collaborator with the mayor and Council in conservation and environmental protection. The Tour Committee appreciates the assistance offered by the Madison Police and Rotary, the (TMC) Madison Community House, and the Madison Shade Tree Commission, all working together to make this event a huge success.
