Welcome to the Friends of the Madison Public Library
The Friends of the Madison Public Library (FMPL), a 501(c)(3) organization, is dedicated to contributing to the outstanding services provided by the library through volunteer support, supplemental funding for special programming and expansion of the collection. Money raised by Friends through our Annual March Gala, Touch a Truck and our Annual Appeal allows the library to provide additional programming that it would otherwise be unable to afford through state and local government contributions alone. The Friends present quarterly gifts to the library where the primary beneficiaries are the children’s programs and the book and media collections.
The Friends have been supporting library programs for decades. Originally founded in 1938 by the Thursday Morning Club, the Friends have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the library and paid for countless cultural and educational events and programs. Among them are the popular Drew Minicourse Series, the Children’s Summer Reading Program, the Museum Pass Program and the ten summer lecture series co-sponsored with the Madison Senior Center. Funding from the Friends has also helped to support the library’s extensive collection of books, media and programs for adults, teens, and children. Our heartfelt thanks go out to all of those whose contributions have helped to make our library such an outstanding institution.
Like libraries throughout the state, the Madison Public Library has been facing many new challenges as it strives to meet the rapidly changing needs of our community. Today’s library patrons seek out not just books but Internet access, DVDs/CDs, audio books, Twitter and Facebook. In response the library has added new layers of services and activities and reaches out to entirely new populations. In addition, with a variety of specialized sections such as those dedicated to local history, job searches, and teenage interests, the Madison Public Library truly has something to offer everyone!
Thank you to the hundreds of families and businesses in our community that contribute to the Friends!
