The Friends of the Madison Public Library

At Its 2026 Annual Benefit

The Friends of the Madison Public Library (The Friends), a nonprofit organization, honored Dr. Robert Butts, conductor and composer, at its Annual Benefit on Saturday, March 21, 2026.

Founder and Conductor of the Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey and an Adjunct Professor at area colleges and universities, Dr. Butts has served as faculty for the popular “Minicourses” sponsored by the Friends for 30 years.

Minicourse Coordinator, Sylvia Luber, said, “We are so grateful to have had Dr Butts as an instructor for all these years. His dedication to and passion for music and music education have so enriched the lives of our students! As teacher, maestro, and composer, Dr Butts has inspired students and given them a lasting appreciation of music.”

Proceeds from this event support library programs and events for children, teens, and adults, and expand streaming services and book and media collections. The Friends fund special programs, including the library’s popular Museum Pass and Summer Reading Programs, and also sponsor the Minicourses.
