Friends of the Madison Public Library Annual Benefit Honors Peggy Oakes

The Friends of the Madison Public Library (The Friends), a nonprofit organization, will honor Madison resident Peggy Oakes, a long-time volunteer on the Friends of the Madison Library Board, at its Annual Benefit to be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Grace Episcopal Church, Madison. Many families fondly remember Ms. Oakes for her years as Director of the Madison Cooperative Nursery School. Her leadership and dedication as a volunteer were also demonstrated in multiple local organizations where she has held numerous board positions.

During her years as Library Director, Nancy Adamczyk remembers her “delight in working with Peggy, who joined the Board in 1996 and served in several Board positions during my tenure.”  She remembers Peggy being “so helpful in all aspects of the Friends’ activities – setting up the Bottle Hill Day booth, planting the library courtyard flower pots, organizing volunteers to complete mailings and to assist at Touch a Truck event.”

All are invited to attend the April 22nd Annual Benefit at Grace Church located at 4 Madison Avenue. Wine, beer, and a variety of delicious hors d'oeuvres catered by the Thursday Morning Club will be served.

Invitations are being sent to library donors and are available at the library’s front desk. Reservations are $75 per person. Checks should be made payable to Friends of the Madison Public Library and mailed to 39 Keep Street, Madison, NJ 07940, along with the RSVP card. Admission can also be purchased online.

Proceeds from this event are used to support many special library programs and events for children, teens, and adults and to expand streaming services and book and media collections. The Friends fund special programs, including the library’s popular Museum Pass Program with a new digital format and sponsor the “Minicourses at Madison,” a continuing adult education program.
